Protecting Your Privacy Online
I've come up with a list on ways to protect yourself (well, your private information I should say) while online.
1. Think before providing any personal information to emails: Validate who is sending the email and for what purpose. Remember banks and credit cards will never ask you for your social security number nor password through an email, so don't fall for the fake "Bank of Where ever" link that maybe in an email.
2. Don't use the same password for everything on the Internet: Once a hacker get one, he's got access to everything! And try to use complex passwords, but something you can remember, like "Run4home" or "4Quarters2dollar". These are strong password types and can be remembered with ease.
3. Don't save your credit card info when ordering: Some site will ask if you want to save this information so that it's easier to call up the next time you shop. You don't want to do this, there are too many "hacked" databases that have happen to these companies and you do need to be a victim.
4. Protect your personal information thats on your PC: If you have this info on your computer, then you need to at least encrypt it or purchase software that will encrypt and password protect that information. Viruses can capture that information and transmit it to the hackers server.
5. When providing credit card info for online purchase make sure it's secure: If your ordering online make sure that when you are prompted to enter your personal information you see the gold lock in the bottom right corner of your browser. You can also look in the address bar for "https" which means it's a secure site.
