Think You Have Your Cookies Under Control? Flash ! Cookies are back!

So you think you control your internet cookies eh! Well there’s a program running on more than half the PC’s and websites that’s just holding those cookies and you don’t even know it. There’s even a UC Berkeley researcher’s report that was submitted yesterday as a comment in the government’s proceeding about the use of cookies of federal websites.

The bad guy here…Adobe Flash plugin! Flash cookies are not known by most of us and you can’t clear them in your standard browser. Even worse is that some services out there use this plugin to reinstate traditional cookies that a user has deleted from his or her’s system. After a little research of my own, I found that you can check these cookies by going to the Adobe site http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help... at which point will show you the tracking cookies for your Flash plugin. From here you can delete these cookies, but I have checked around and found some favorites of mine that will clear these also. CCleaner and an add-on for Firefox called BetterPrivacy 1.29, will also remove these goodies.

So take a look and see how many site have been tracking you via Flash cookies. It may surprise you of exactly who’s been tracking your moves….
